About Maven by Midfield
Maven by Midfield is the newest FBO at Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township, Michigan, founded by owner and pilot Stephen R. Polk as a natural extension of his Midfield Management hangar complex. The 13-acre campus features 76,000 square feet of hangar space across four private hangar facilities, along with a newly renovated terminal, brand new fuel trucks, and new ground support equipment. The team consists of FBO industry veterans, pilots, or both, bringing experienced hands to a fresh operation. The terminal provides a warm and spacious environment with a conference room, crew lounge, flight planning area, and complimentary snacks and beverages, including a slushy machine that has become an unexpectedly popular amenity. Crew cars are available for ground transportation, and the FBO coordinates rental cars and other services. Maven offers Jet A and 100LL with volume discounts, along with deicing and lavatory service. Oakland County International's 6,200-foot primary runway accommodates most midsize business jets, and the airport's position in the northern Detroit suburbs provides access to the Oakland County business corridor, including the corporate campuses in Auburn Hills, Troy, and Southfield. Downtown Detroit is about 30 miles southeast. The airport competes with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Willow Run for the broader Detroit market, but its suburban location makes it the preferred choice for passengers with destinations in Oakland County or the northern suburbs. Maven competes directly with the established Pentastar Aviation on the same field, and its appeal lies in the energy of a new operation, modern equipment, competitive pricing, and the entrepreneurial approach of an owner-operator who flies himself. For passengers who appreciate a fresh, independently run alternative, Maven brings a contemporary feel to the Pontiac field.
