Northeast Philadelphia Airport

Northeast Philadelphia Airport is the primary general aviation reliever for Philadelphia International. While PHL handles commercial traffic and can mean long taxi queues and ramp congestion for charter passengers, KPNE offers a straightforward private terminal experience with no airline interference. The airport is operated by the Philadelphia Division of Aviation, the same authority that runs PHL.

The airport has two crossing runways and can accommodate most light to midsize jets. It is not a port of entry, so international arrivals requiring customs will need to clear elsewhere before landing here. The airport sits at 120 feet elevation in a dense urban residential neighborhood, which means noise abatement procedures are in effect. Pilots are expected to follow published departure and arrival noise abatement routes, and late-night operations draw complaints from surrounding communities.

Center City Philadelphia is about 10 miles southwest, typically 20 to 35 minutes by car depending on traffic on I-95 or Roosevelt Boulevard. The Philadelphia Convention Center and major hotels around Broad Street and Market Street are within that range. King of Prussia is about 25 miles west, a 35 to 50 minute drive. Princeton, NJ is roughly 45 miles northeast via I-95, usually under an hour with light traffic. Car services and black car companies operating out of Philadelphia are the standard option. The airport does not have scheduled helicopter transfers to Manhattan, but the drive to Midtown is around 95 miles and takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic through the New Jersey corridors.
