Airport guide

Northwest Florida Beaches International opened in 2010 as a purpose-built replacement for the old Panama City-Bay County Regional Airport, which was demolished to make way for a residential development. The newer facility sits on a larger footprint with an 8,400-foot runway capable of handling large-cabin and ultra-long-range jets without restriction.

Private passengers arrive through fixed-base operators on the field. The airport is uncongested by the standards of Florida destination airports: no slot controls, no peak-season ground stops, and no commercial jet bridge conflicts at the FBO ramp. Summer and spring break periods drive significant traffic, but the facility handles it without the delays common at smaller single-runway airports. The field sits at 69 feet elevation with generally favorable VFR weather for most of the year, though Gulf Coast afternoon thunderstorms are routine June through September.

The airport replaced PFN specifically to serve the resort market, so the ramp, terminal, and FBO infrastructure are all modern construction. Passengers accustomed to older regional airports will find the facility clean and functional.
