About Modern Aviation San Juan
Modern Aviation operates 24/7 at Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport, known locally as Isla Grande, with call-out service ensuring coverage at all hours. The facility sits on the shore of San Juan Bay, placing passengers just 2 to 6 miles from Old San Juan, the Condado hotel district, and the Hato Rey financial center, making it the most conveniently located FBO in the San Juan metro area.
The operation has grown to include five hangars totaling over 152,000 square feet of enclosed space, a 240,000 square foot ramp, and an FAA-approved Part 145 repair station staffed by 14 mechanics trained in Cessna Citation and Gulfstream types. For passengers, the terminal offers a conference room with web conferencing capabilities, eight individual snooze areas for rest, and comfortable amenities throughout the facility. Quick U.S. Customs and USDA inspections are handled on site.
One of the major advantages for charter passengers is direct ramp access from the main roads. Passengers can drive onto the ramp and walk to their aircraft, avoiding terminal lines and security queues. Hertz rental cars are available on site, and courtesy cars are provided for quick errands. Aircraft detailing is available for operators who want their jet looking its best.
Isla Grande's location on San Juan Bay means a shorter drive to most San Juan destinations compared to the larger Luis Munoz Marin International Airport across the metro area. The airport also serves as a base for inter-island flights to Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Modern Aviation's investment in new hangar construction and facility upgrades signals a commitment to Isla Grande's role as San Juan's premier executive aviation airport.
Amenities and services
Operations at Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport
Old San Juan is roughly 1.5 miles from the airport, typically a 5 to 10 minute drive. The Condado beach and hotel district is about 2 miles east. The Convention Center is immediately adjacent to the airport grounds. Taxis and rideshares (Uber operates in Puerto Rico) are available at the airport. Car rental is an option but Old San Juan and Condado are both compact enough that many passengers do without one. SJU is about 8 miles to the east via Highway 26, a 15 to 20 minute drive in normal traffic.
