About Standard Aviation

Standard Aviation opened in 2020 at Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas and quickly established itself as the top-rated FBO in the Caribbean. Aviation International News readers voted it the number one Caribbean FBO in 2024, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5.0 across five categories, making it the only Caribbean facility to rank in the top 20 percent of all FBOs in the Americas.

The facility centers on a 26,000 square foot hangar with doors spanning 240 feet wide and 28 feet high, accommodating a broad range of business jet sizes. The passenger lobby is designed for luxury, with comfortable seating and a welcoming atmosphere. Upstairs, the crew area features a full kitchen with laundry machines, a dishwasher, and amenities designed for extended stays. A separate crew rest space and a flight planning conference room with runway views round out the operations side.

Customs clearance is available 24/7 with advance notice, and the FBO coordinates all ground transportation, concierge services, and hotel and villa bookings. St. Thomas is the gateway to the U.S. Virgin Islands, and as a U.S. territory, travelers from the mainland clear customs at the FBO but do not need passports. The island's proximity to the British Virgin Islands makes it a popular first stop for passengers heading to charter yachts based in Tortola or the BVI cays.

The airport's 7,000-foot runway handles midsize and super-midsize jets, and the approach over the Caribbean waters and Charlotte Amalie harbor gives passengers a memorable arrival. Standard Aviation's combination of modern facilities, high service standards, and a purpose-built hangar has raised the bar for private aviation in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Charlotte Amalie is about 3 miles east of the airport, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi depending on traffic. The east end of the island, including Red Hook and the Ritz-Carlton at Great Bay, is 11 to 13 miles away and can take 30 to 45 minutes in peak traffic due to the winding, hilly terrain. Taxi rates on St. Thomas are set by the USVI government and are per-person for shared vans, not metered. Private car service is available through local operators and should be arranged in advance. The Red Hook ferry dock for St. John is about 11 miles from the airport. Water taxi service to nearby islands and superyacht anchorages is available from the Charlotte Amalie waterfront, roughly a 10-minute drive from the terminal.
