About Modern Aviation
Modern Aviation at Wilmington International Airport has been on the field since 1975, operating under the Air Wilmington name for decades before joining the Modern Aviation network. The facility holds IS-BAH Stage II certification, an international safety management standard that few FBOs achieve, reflecting their commitment to standardized, professional operations. The FBO operates 24/7/365 with over 100,000 square feet of hangar space and provides full U.S. Customs ramp service as an official port of entry. A notable regulatory distinction applies here: under federal law, Wilmington International is the only location on the East Coast where aircraft returning from areas south of 30 degrees North latitude may land to clear U.S. Customs north of Jacksonville, Florida, without special exemption. This makes KILM a strategic stop for flights returning from the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. The airport has two runways, the longer at 7,999 feet, handling all standard business jet types. Wilmington, North Carolina, is a coastal city of about 120,000 people known for its historic riverfront district, Wrightsville Beach, and a growing film production industry. The FBO is about 10 minutes from downtown and 15 minutes from the beach. For charter passengers, the arrival experience benefits from Modern Aviation's decades of local knowledge combined with the operational standards of a national FBO group. Screen Gems Studios and the area's resort communities generate steady private aviation traffic alongside the military presence at nearby Camp Lejeune.
