About Abilene Aero

Abilene Aero has been operating at Abilene Regional Airport since 1969, providing fueling, aircraft storage, and maintenance services to the West Texas aviation community. The facility is now part of the Freeman Holdings Group, which also operates the neighboring Freeman Jet Center at the same airport. Together, the two operations give Abilene Regional comprehensive FBO coverage. Abilene Aero offers DLA-approved aviation fuel, aircraft parking, GPU and power cart services, and full-scale maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. The facility serves as a factory service center for Textron and Cirrus aircraft, making it a destination for owners of Citation, King Air, and Cirrus jet aircraft who need authorized maintenance while traveling through West Texas. The 24/7 presence ensures that private and charter flights have reliable ground services available at any hour. Abilene Regional Airport's primary runway measures 7,202 feet, accommodating most business jet types without restriction. The airport sits on the south side of Abilene, with Interstate 20 providing east-west highway connections to Midland-Odessa, Dallas-Fort Worth, and points beyond. For charter passengers, Abilene Aero provides a straightforward, no-frills FBO experience focused on getting aircraft serviced and passengers on their way efficiently. The facility is particularly well-suited for passengers connected to the oil and gas, ranching, or education sectors that drive much of Abilene's economy. While the amenities are more functional than luxurious, the combination of experienced staff, comprehensive maintenance capabilities, and round-the-clock availability makes Abilene Aero a reliable stop for private aviation in this part of Texas.

Operations at Abilene Regional Airport

Downtown Abilene is 3 miles from the terminal, roughly a 7-minute drive. The airport has rental car counters on-site. Car service and taxi options exist but are limited in a city of 125,000, so arranging transportation in advance is advisable. Dallas-Fort Worth is approximately 180 miles east on I-20, about 2.5 to 3 hours by car. Midland-Odessa is 120 miles southwest, around 1.5 hours. For passengers continuing to remote ranch or oilfield locations, ground vehicles or helicopter transfers from KABI are the norm.
