About Tailwind Aviation
Tailwind Aviation is one of two FBOs at Lea County Regional Airport in Hobbs, New Mexico, located four miles west of town in the heart of the Permian Basin. Lea County currently ranks as the number-one oil-producing county in the United States, and the airport sees steady traffic from energy industry executives, field engineers, and service company personnel traveling to wellsites and production facilities throughout southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. Tailwind provides Jet A and 100LL fueling, hangar rentals, and a comfortable waiting area with an observation lounge, restrooms, a pilots lounge, and two courtesy cars for ground transportation. The FBO operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The airport's longest runway is 7,499 feet, accommodating most business jet types. Hobbs is a small city of about 40,000 people where the economy is driven almost entirely by oil and gas production, and the FBO traffic reflects that focus. United Airlines operates commercial routes from the airport to Denver and Houston, which gives crews repositioning options. The landscape is flat high desert at roughly 3,660 feet elevation, with typically clear flying conditions and occasional dust storms. For charter passengers visiting the Permian Basin on energy business, Tailwind provides a no-frills, efficient arrival point with the essentials covered. The staff is familiar with the needs of oilfield travelers and can help coordinate transportation to remote well locations and production sites in the region.
