About Butte Aviation
Butte Aviation is an independent FBO at Bert Mooney Airport, serving the historic mining city of Butte in southwest Montana. The airport terminal spans 40,633 square feet, a surprisingly large facility for a city of 35,000, reflecting the airport's role as a regional transportation hub. The FBO provides Jet A and 100LL fueling during business hours from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, with one hour of advance notice required. For charter passengers, Butte offers access to some of Montana's best outdoor recreation. The ski resorts at Discovery, Maverick Mountain, and the larger Big Sky Resort are all within driving distance. World-class fly fishing on the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Clark Fork rivers draws anglers from across the country. Yellowstone National Park's west entrance is about two and a half hours south. Butte itself is a fascinating historical destination, with the Berkeley Pit, the World Museum of Mining, and a well-preserved Victorian uptown district built on copper mining wealth. The airport sits at 5,550 feet elevation with a 6,529-foot primary runway, adequate for most light and midsize business jets though operators should plan for density altitude considerations during summer months. Ground transportation can be arranged through the FBO, and rental cars are available at the terminal. Butte's location at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 15 provides good highway access to Helena, Missoula, and the surrounding region. For passengers who value authenticity over luxury, Butte Aviation delivers reliable fuel and ground service at a genuine Montana working-class town.
