About Cutter Aviation
Cutter Aviation at the Albuquerque International Sunport holds the distinction of being America's oldest continuously family-owned FBO, founded by William P. Cutter in 1928 in New Mexico. The company moved its main operation to what is now the Sunport in 1947 and has remained there ever since. The facility operates 24/7 on Clark Carr Loop SE, providing full-service capabilities including aircraft fueling, ground handling, hangar storage, and passenger amenities. The line service team is staffed by experienced professionals who handle everything from fueling to aircraft towing and marshalling. Cutter also offers aircraft sales, charter, and maintenance services, making it a comprehensive aviation operation rather than handling-only. The Albuquerque Sunport features a 13,793-foot primary runway (one of the longest civilian runways in the US), capable of handling any business jet without weight or performance restrictions. The airport sits at approximately 5,350 feet elevation, which is worth noting for flight planning purposes. Views of the Sandia Mountains to the east provide a dramatic backdrop during arrival and departure. The Sunport is located about five miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque, with Interstate 25 providing fast north-south connections to Santa Fe (about one hour north). For charter passengers visiting New Mexico for business, tourism, ski trips to Taos or Santa Fe, or the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Cutter Aviation provides a family-owned alternative to the corporate FBO chains. The nearly century-long history at this specific airport means the team understands the local operation intimately. Cutter also operates FBOs at Phoenix Sky Harbor and Phoenix Deer Valley, so passengers traveling the Southwest corridor benefit from network familiarity.
