Pebble Beach Pro-Am

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am runs over four days in late January or early February at Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Monterey Peninsula. Celebrity amateurs play alongside PGA Tour professionals across three courses (Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club), with the final professional round back at Pebble Beach.

The event draws an audience that travels by private jet at a higher rate than almost any other PGA Tour event outside Augusta. The combination of world-class golf, the Peninsula's appeal as a destination, and the celebrity participation makes it one of the most recognizable tournaments on the calendar.

The celebrity amateur field is a core part of the tournament's identity. Bill Murray, Steph Curry, and a rotating cast of entertainment and sports figures play alongside professionals. Corporate participation through sponsor invitations brings executive teams from major brands -- the attendance profile skews toward golf-serious business people who also value the Peninsula as a multi-day destination.

Most private aviation traffic concentrates around both weekends: arrival Thursday and Friday before the first round, departure Sunday through Tuesday after the final round. The Monterey Peninsula's appeal extends the stay for many attendees into pre and post-tournament time at Carmel, Big Sur, and 17-Mile Drive, which spreads empty leg supply over a wider window than a strictly event-driven crowd would produce.

Where to land for Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Monterey Regional Airport (KMRY) is 5 miles from Pebble Beach, one of the most convenient event airports in the US. A single FBO handles all private aircraft and adds temporary staff for Pebble Beach week. The airport accommodates aircraft up to midsize size on its ramp; heavy jets and ultra-long-range aircraft may need to park at San Jose or San Francisco. Book ramp space early, as the Monterey ramp fills during the tournament.

Monterey Regional's runway is 7,679 feet at sea level. That length handles the full range of business jets including heavy-cabin aircraft, and the sea-level elevation means no performance restrictions apply. Aircraft that face weight limits at mountain airports operate normally at KMRY.

San Jose Mineta International (KSJC) is 90 miles north and handles the full range of business aircraft. Signature and other FBOs at San Jose work well when Monterey is at capacity or when the aircraft requires a larger ramp. The drive from San Jose to Pebble Beach takes 90 minutes via Highway 101 and Highway 1.

San Francisco International (KSFO) has FBO service for private aircraft and is generally the third choice given the distance (120 miles, roughly two hours to the Peninsula). Operators use SFO for very large aircraft or when arriving on international flights that require customs processing.

When to book empty legs for Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Empty legs to Monterey start appearing the week before the tournament as operators position aircraft to the Peninsula. The window from Tuesday through Friday before the first round has the most positioning leg activity.

Wednesday arrivals give you the widest ramp availability at KMRY. Operators who position early often do so because their passengers want time to play other Peninsula courses before the tournament begins. If you're arriving for the first round only, the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning window is the most compressed ramp period.

The best discount window comes after the tournament ends. Operators whose passengers played in the pro-am or attended as spectators need to move aircraft quickly. Monterey-outbound empty legs the Sunday and Monday after the final round appear in volume and at prices well below charter rates on the same routes.

The midweek cut structure creates a small departure wave. The tournament trims to professionals only after round two, which produces a modest outbound wave from amateur participants on Saturday evening. Those legs occasionally open up at discounted rates for anyone flexible enough to leave the Peninsula before the professional final round.

What it costs to fly private to Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Current empty legs arriving near Pebble Beach, CA range from $4,000 to $15,000, with an average around $7,616. By aircraft size: midsize jets at $4,200-$5,000, heavy jets at $12,500-$15,000, light jets at $4,000.
