About Johnson Aviation

Johnson Aviation is a family-owned FBO at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, serving East Texas since 1959. Founded by Garner Johnson and now managed by his sons Rex and Rodney, the operation spans three generations of hands-on aviation experience. Rex holds SEL, MEL, A&P, and IA ratings and has been with the company since 1974; Rodney, also an aircraft mechanic, joined in 1985.

The FBO provides full fueling services with Jet A and 100LL, aircraft maintenance, flight instruction, and airplane rental alongside standard ground handling. The terminal offers a comfortable waiting area for passengers and basic crew amenities. Ground transportation can be coordinated through the front desk, and the staff takes pride in providing friendly, first-class service with the personal attention that a family operation can deliver.

Tyler is the principal city of East Texas, known for its rose-growing industry (the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden contains 38,000 rose bushes), the Caldwell Zoo, and a healthcare sector anchored by UT Health East Texas and CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances. Tyler's oil and gas heritage still generates business aviation activity, and the city sits at the junction of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 69, providing highway access to Dallas (100 miles west) and Shreveport (90 miles east).

The airport's longest runway, 4/22, stretches 7,201 feet, comfortably accommodating midsize jets. Johnson Aviation shares the field with Jet Center of Tyler, giving passengers and operators a choice. The Johnson family's multi-decade commitment to this airport means deep local knowledge and established relationships with hotels, restaurants, and car services throughout the Tyler area.
