About Atlantic Aviation

Atlantic Aviation at Garfield County Regional Airport in Rifle, Colorado serves as one of two primary private aviation gateways to the Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley area. The facility features a brand new 30,000-square-foot heated hangar and a freshly renovated lobby decorated in mountain lodge style, with elegant finishes that reflect the upscale character of the Aspen market. Five heated hangars in total provide substantial aircraft storage capacity, important during Colorado's harsh mountain winters. The FBO includes a pilot lounge and provides 24-hour service with staff assistance for hotel reservations and recommendations on outdoor recreation in the area. The airport operates 24/7 with no noise restrictions, which is a significant advantage over Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, where steep approach procedures, a 8,006-foot runway at 7,820 feet elevation, and nighttime curfews create operational challenges. Rifle's 7,011-foot runway sits at a more manageable 5,548 feet elevation, and the straightforward terrain makes arrivals and departures far less complex. The trade-off is the 60-mile, roughly 75-minute drive from Rifle to Aspen through Glenwood Canyon on I-70 and Highway 82. For passengers whose destination is Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, or Basalt in the mid-valley, the drive from Rifle is considerably shorter. Many flight departments prefer Rifle for larger aircraft that cannot operate safely into Aspen, or during winter weather when Aspen's instrument approaches become particularly demanding. Atlantic has demonstrated community investment in the Roaring Fork Valley, contributing $1 million toward housing initiatives for local residents. For charter passengers heading to the Aspen area who prioritize operational safety margins and flexibility over proximity, Atlantic at Rifle provides a well-appointed alternative.
