About Freedom Aviation
Freedom Aviation has been serving the Lynchburg aviation community since 1948, making it one of the longest continuously operating FBOs in Virginia. Their Jet Center at Lynchburg Regional Airport handles fuel sales, hangar rentals, and ground services for charter passengers visiting the Blue Ridge region of central Virginia.
The FBO terminal is located at 970 Airport Road, with administrative offices at 310 Hangar Road. The facility includes a passenger waiting area, pilot supplies, and basic amenities. The staff can arrange rental cars, ground transportation, and lodging recommendations. The maintenance department is a federally approved aircraft repair station open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., capable of servicing aircraft from small piston singles to midsize jets.
Lynchburg Regional has a primary runway of 5,799 feet at an elevation of 938 feet, handling light jets and turboprops comfortably. Midsize jets can operate here depending on weight and conditions. The airport sits on a ridge with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and the approach along the James River valley is scenic in any season.
The city of Lynchburg is home to Liberty University, one of the largest private universities in the country, which generates substantial charter traffic during the academic year and athletic seasons. The downtown area has undergone significant revitalization along the riverfront, with restaurants, breweries, and the historic Lower Bluff Walk trail.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 20 minutes west, and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, where the Civil War effectively ended, is 25 miles east. Bedford, home to the National D-Day Memorial, is about 30 minutes away. Smith Mountain Lake, a popular recreation area, is 45 minutes south.
Freedom Aviation offers aircraft charter, sales, and flight training alongside its FBO operations. For passengers arriving in the Lynchburg area, it provides a capable, experienced ground handling operation with strong local knowledge.
