Avflight Gunnison

Avflight Gunnison is the sole FBO at Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport, a mountain airfield one mile southwest of Gunnison at 7,680 feet elevation in central Colorado. The facility includes a 4,100-square-foot terminal with a pilots lounge, conference room, Wi-Fi, and a flight planning room. Hangar space totals 56,000 square feet and can accommodate aircraft as large as a Bombardier Global 6000, which is important during winter when overnight temperatures can drop well below zero. The customer service staff handles ground transportation arrangements, hotel accommodations, and catering for arriving passengers. The airport's 9,400-foot runway provides ample length for density altitude operations during summer months, and the field has historically attracted aircraft manufacturers for high-altitude performance testing. For charter passengers, Gunnison is the gateway to Crested Butte ski resort, about 28 miles north. Crested Butte is known for its extreme terrain and authentic ski-town atmosphere, drawing a different crowd than the more developed Colorado resorts. In summer, the area offers world-class mountain biking, fly fishing on the Gunnison River, and hiking in the West Elk and Maroon Bells wilderness areas. Avflight acquired the operation from Gunnison Valley Aviation and brought their national network's fuel programs and service standards to the location. Pilot reviews consistently praise the staff for meeting aircraft on the ramp with rental cars and providing friendly, efficient service. The terminal is functional rather than flashy, but the concierge support and hangar capabilities are well-suited to the high-end clientele flying into ski country.
