About Cortez Flying Service
Cortez Flying Service is a family-operated FBO that has served the aviation community at Cortez Municipal Airport since 1953, making it one of the longest-running FBO operations in the Four Corners region of Colorado. The facility provides Jet A and 100LL fueling, charter services, maintenance, and flight instruction. For charter passengers, the primary draw is location: Cortez Municipal is the closest airport to Mesa Verde National Park, with the park entrance just 11 miles east on Highway 160, roughly a 10-minute drive. Mesa Verde's ancient cliff dwellings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most significant archaeological preserves in North America. The airport also serves as a gateway to the broader Four Corners region, including Canyon of the Ancients National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, and the San Juan Mountains. The town of Cortez sits at 6,191 feet elevation in the Montezuma Valley, with views of the La Plata Mountains to the north. The airport has a 7,205-foot runway, which provides adequate length for most business jets while accounting for the density altitude at this elevation. Scheduled air service connects Cortez to Denver and Phoenix through Boutique Air, but charter passengers enjoy a much more flexible and private experience through Cortez Flying Service. Rental cars are available at the airport and in town. The FBO reflects small-town Colorado hospitality: friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable about the local area. For passengers on cultural tourism or outdoor adventure trips to the Four Corners, Cortez Flying Service provides the essential ground support to make the visit work.
