About Sylt Airport FBO

The General Aviation Terminal at Sylt Airport serves private aviation visitors to Germany's most exclusive North Sea island destination. Sylt, known for its upscale resort towns of Kampen and Westerland, draws a seasonal crowd of well-heeled vacationers, particularly during the summer months from May through September. The GAT provides general aviation handling, apron parking on the dedicated GA area (Apron 2, on the west side of the field), and fuel services supplied by Total. The terminal staff handle the administrative aspects of arrival and departure, and SIXT delivers rental cars directly to the GAT if you enter the airport code during booking, which simplifies ground transport. The airport has a runway suitable for most business jet types, though operators should confirm specific aircraft limitations in advance. For charter passengers, Sylt offers a direct air link to one of northern Europe's most sought-after island retreats, avoiding the car-train shuttle that road travelers must use (there is no bridge, only a rail causeway). The island is about 38 kilometers long with beaches, dunes, upscale restaurants, and boutique hotels concentrated in the western towns. Traffic is heavily seasonal, with summer bringing the peak of private aviation arrivals. The GAT experience can vary, with reports of friendly, welcoming service being the norm. Operating hours follow seasonal schedules and should be confirmed in advance for early or late flights. The island's compact size means any destination on Sylt is within a 30-minute drive from the airport. Winter operations continue but at much reduced volume.

Operations at Westerland Sylt Airport

The airport is roughly 1km from central Westerland. Kampen, the island's most upscale village, is about 8km north, a 10 to 15 minute drive. Keitum is 6km to the east. List, at the northern tip, is 30km away, around 30 to 35 minutes by car. The island is narrow and 40km long, so nearly every destination is within a 40-minute drive. Car hire is available at the airport, and taxis cover the island.
