About Strategic Aviation

Strategic Aviation provides FBO services at Grande Prairie Airport, serving northwestern Alberta's oil and gas industry corridor. The airport has a large ramp with ground staff capable of handling private and charter aircraft, and prior permission is required for operations. The terminal building was originally constructed in 1981 but has undergone extensive renovations over the years, adding a second-floor restaurant, expanded terminal space to the south with additional parking, and a later expansion that included another gate, baggage carousel, and office space for customs use. For charter passengers, Grande Prairie Airport provides a functional entry point to the Peace River region and its energy sector operations. The airport has a 6,500-foot runway that accommodates most business jet types. Grande Prairie is the largest city in northwestern Alberta (population around 65,000) and serves as the commercial center for a vast area of oil, gas, and forestry operations. The airport sees significant fly-in/fly-out traffic for workers heading to remote well sites and camps. The drive from the airport to downtown Grande Prairie takes about 10 minutes. While Strategic Aviation's facility is more operationally focused than luxury-oriented, it provides the essential services that private aviation requires in this region: fuel, ramp handling, and parking. Ground transport including rental cars and taxi services is available. Customs services can be arranged for international arrivals. The energy sector drives consistent year-round traffic, making this a well-established aviation operation despite its remote location.
